Confusing dishonesty and lack of communication

On 2/26/11, David Greene at Stateway quoted me $716 to ship my car (#320188) from TN to MT.
He said the initial deposit on my credit card would be $145, but he charged my card $166. Why? I don't know. He won't respond to me now. He said the balance I would owe the driver upon delivery would be $571, but it was actually $640. Of course, this information was not revealed until the driver was about to deliver. Why is business done like this? I don't know. David at Stateway will not explain. The car was picked up on time (last possible day) because I badgered David about it via email. Then they used United Transport to ship the car. The car showed up fine, but don't be fooled by the fact that they are a licensed carrier. They will certainly try to broker your car to another trucker...just like all the other brokers. So, I have paid $806 instead of the $716 I was quoted. On 3/10/11, David said I would get a refund of $50. That has not happened, and wouldn't make up the difference anyhow. Why do people do business this way? I would have gladly paid $806 in the first place, but Stateway had to be dishonest about it and not communicate about it. Why? I don't know, but I can't recommend dishonest people. I would rather pay more to deal with people that know how to communicate.

Update: The day I posted this review on Transport Reviews (03/31/2011), David at Stateway began to communicate again. I received email notices that my car had been picked up and delivered (which had actually happened 20 days earlier on 03/11/2011). Those emails would have been nice to receive as the events occurred. I was also promptly refunded $121 by Stateway. I don't know where that number came from, but it makes my total bill from Stateway equal $685, which is $31 cheaper than the initial quote. Thanks David for making this happen. David insists that this was all an honest mistake, and I have no way of proving otherwise. I'd encourage Stateway to try giving their customers more information about the amounts that they pay and the timing of the shipping events. Additionally, when my initial review was posted on Transport Reviews, Stateway Auto Transport Inc. had it removed from that website. Their reason was that they had no record of my transaction with them, and they could not confirm that I had been their customer. I had to prove to TR that I had, in fact, been a Stateway customer using old emails and bank statements. Buyer beware.
