I had used DAS ' Expedite Service in April '08 to ship our SUV from Ft. Lauderdale to Syracuse, NY. The vehicle arrived on time and in great shape ... a pleasant experience. This year I called DAS on March 29th & dealt with Steve Linders.
I explained that we were driving back home to Ottawa, Ontario from Florida with our SUV and that I wanted our 2nd vehicle, a BMW M-Coupe shipped to Syracuse, N.Y. where we planned to overnight on April 19th. I explained that it was imperative that the car be there for the 19th so that we could pick it up the next morning & head on home with the 2 cars because our deadline as U.S.. non-residents was up.
I agreed to upgrade to the Expedite service ($250) and also requested the top of the carrier($150) for a total cost of $1,010. Steve confirmed that if the vehicle was dropped off at the Ft. Lauderdale depot on April 10th it would definitely be there for April 19th. I dropped the vehicle off at noon on the April 10th. On April 18th, I contacted DAS from Harrisonburg, Va to check on the car's status and was informed that it was scheduled to arrive in Syracuse on April 23rd; I was very disappointed and related my frustration to the supervising manager, John. He stated that according to his records the vehicle was dropped off on the 12th and that due to heavy volume in Florida they were experiencing delays, furthermore, he advised that Steve Linders had left the firm and that in any event, as per the contract, I would be reimbursed $50 for each late day. I then explained to John that we had to be out of the U.S. on the 20th (as originally explained to Steve Linders) and that this delay would necessitate a 7 hour cross-border drive from Ottawa to Syracuse to pick up the M-Coupe. The irony is that the car could have been dropped off on any day after March 29th .... but I relied on DAS for scheduling, paid extra for Expedite service and when I suggested that they reimburse the $250 Expedite fee ..... John said: "can't do that ... you will get $50 for each late day ".... and I pointed out: you never scheduled the delivery properly to provide the service and you made no attempt to communicate any delay and furthermore you will not own up that the scheduling was improperly booked.
The car arrived at 4:00 PM on April 22nd. Drove from Ottawa the morning of the 23rd to pick up the car at the Syracuse Depot, operated by Oakes Towing ... there was damage to the car ... the font spoiler suffered 2 deep gouges .. probably caused when the car was driven onto the carrier. I will file a damage claim but I'm not hopeful that they will own up to the damages. I will not use DAS again and will definitely go out of my way to not recommend their lack of service.
