never picked up

We talked with three or four companies and went with Cross Country (not the cheapest) when they claimed to be able to guarantee a pickup at the awkward time we needed- between Christmas and New Years. Other companies were more iffy. We were sheduled for a Dec 29 pickup. No driver called on Dec 28 (as promised) and when we called to find out what was going on, we got (1) "Alex W is out to lunch; leave your number and he'll call" and (2) a run-around when we finally (after 3 or 4 tries) got in touch. He 'didn't have the manifest in front of him' so he didn't know the driver's name. But no driver ever took our option, as we found out later. We were told there would be a driver calling on the 29th about the 30th. Never happened. Instead we got automated calls asking if we still wanted a quote. (No, we had a quote.) On the 31st we cancelled. It is now too late to ship our own car; we'll have to rent a car.
