Damaged Car

My car was delivered late in the evening without proper light. No obvious scratches were identified. As soon as the truck left and I tried to drive the car I realized that the gear box was broken. I could not place the reverse, first or second gears (manual box).I called the driver of the carrier (Titan Corp, LLC) within 5 minutes and he denied any knowledge of damage. It was mind-blowing to me that I paid almost $1000 to transfer my car in order to avoid any mechanical wear and tear, and I received it with significant mechanical damage.

I contacted Amerifreight and Titan Corp with my complaint and initially it appeared that they would resolve the claim (back and forth communications, faxed receipts for the repair etc.). It was with great disappointment that I was finally notified that they would assume no responsibility, they would not pay for the repair and they would just send me a "goodwill" $100. The claim was that I signed the Bill of Lading and therefore the car had no problems. I could never have imagined that I need to test drive my car after being transferred on a truck and that customer's responsibilty goes beyond checking for obvious surface damages that would be expected with such a transfer. It was obvious to me (and I think Titan's owner as well) that the manual gear box was broken by the driver or his trainee, while they were moving the car in and out of their truck for loading and unloading other cars. I was not given any other explanation that could justify the damage. This is the reason, I believe, the car was delivered late in the evening with the driver letting the car roll back from the ramp without using the reverse gear.

Amerifreight remained an observer of this communication without any meaningful intervention. I am greatly disappointed by the business ethic demonstrated in this transaction by Amerifreight and their chosen carrier Titan Corporation,LLC. I would like this review to also be a warning for what customers should be looking for when receiving their cars.

We are sorry to hear that the customer found damage with his vehicle. Every carrier we use is fully insured. However, a carrier can only file with their insurance company for any damage noted on the Bill of Lading. Insurance companies will not allow claims to be submitted for damage not presented on the signed Bill of Lading. The customer has AFTA coverage included with his order to help in a situation like this. Our staff will work with every customer to do everything possible to assist with a claim.
