I signed up with AmeriFreight to have my truck brokered out to a driver within 10 days. When there were not takers on the price, Amerifreight suggested adding more cash for the carrier. I posted another $50, and Amerifreight also discounted $50 off the deposit to put towards contracting a carrier as well. The truck still didn't move in a week. I added another $50... still no interest. Finally, 60 days later, a carrier offered to move the truck for yet another $100. I took the offer. I understood the terms of the level of service that I upgraded to guarantee me a move within 5 days, but apparently the route was too uncommon which is why a driver couldn't be found. There are other companies out there that don't broker, but own their own trucks and guarantee pick up and delivery times. These businesses are probably a safer bet if you aren't flexible. I gambled with brokering in an attempt to save money, but not only did I not save money, it took me two months to ship. The folks at Amerifrieght were helpful enough, but it seems they just severely underestimated the prie upfront - perhaps lowballing just to get the business? Be cautious...
