Started the process more than 30 days prior to desired shipping date. Had to move 1 sedan across country and had a reasonably large window to do so (~14 days). I was told it was a very good thing to get a quote more than 30 days out because it is much cheaper. Got a quote of $1050. After initial exchange of information I sat and heard nothing. I called three weeks out and asked about progress and was told by the Amerifreight representative that not much happens until 7-10 days before shipping. Why is it important to get an initial quote 30 days early then? Started getting nervous. I waited until 6 days before quoted shipping day - still nothing. Called again and was told again that things don't really happen until a week out (but it was less than a week away at this point!). Four days until shipping date and I finally receive a call from the rep! He "negotiated" with the driver and my original quote had to increase $400. That's almost a 40% increase over the initial quote. Which begs the question, what is the point of the initial quote? How is that number calculated and based on what? In my opinion, it means nothing and is used to capture customers - the true cost will always be higher and will be market rate. Also, the pick-up date had to be changed and moved later so the driver could accommodate. This part was scary because I was leaving the day after the new pick-up date so there was no margin for error. By this time or course it's too late to do anything but accept the new price/date. So I agree and I'm told by my rep that I will be contacted within the next 24 hours by the driver to arrange the pick-up. Okay. So I wait 1 day. Then another day. No call. Finally I call the driving company myself and they tell me we are glad you called because the Amerifreight rep never transferred your information to us. WHAT?! So amateur and unprofessional. I arrange the pick-up logistics and wait for the day of pick up. Window is 9am-12pm. No one shows up. Then a call from driver, will be there by 3pm. No one by 4pm. Start calling driving company - no answers. Start calling Amerifreight - no answers, just hold. Start calling and texting my rep, Sy. No answer and no responses to my texts. At this point it is 8pm and no one has showed up, I can't get ahold of anyone, and I am moving across country the next day and need my car picked up. Then at 8:30pm, I get a call from the driver, who asks if he can pick up tomorrow. NO! He agrees and picks up the car at 9:30pm, almost 12 hours after the agreed window. I never heard a word from my rep until today, almost 2 weeks later! And the response was a form text message that made no sense in context and asked for a review! So here it is. Incredibly unprofessional company and disappointing experience that was far more stressful than it needed to be. If you need reliable and honest car shipping, don't be lured in with low quotes that mean nothing - don't go with Amerifreight.
