Stressful experience that worked out in the end

Pre-pick up service was excellent. Calls always returned, questions answered, etc.. We got a quote for what was a "really great deal" and was encouraged to sign right away at that price (Spring is high season for transport). We did the "premium" package (offered shippers a bit more) as we needed the car picked up on a certain day (many offer you a 2-day pick up range) and locked in our price. Now the not so smooth part... our daughter was leaving Chicago on a Tuesday so we had to have Monday pick up. As of Friday, there had been no call from the transport company with an ETA. Our agent said not to worry, they would call Saturday with an ETA. Monday morning came w no call from the transport company. I called the agent and they said they would reach out to transport company and driver. 3 HOURS Later w no return call, I reached out to the agent again who said they would reach out to the transport company driver (sound familiar) and to give them 10 minutes to call me back . I called back 45 minutes later only to be told that the driver "broke down". Agent agreed that this was suspicious (no ETA then broken down only when he was finally contacted?) and that most likely he had gotten a better price for a different car and that THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU HAVE A REALLY GREAT PRICE! You would have thought they would have told me this when they encouraged me to lock in the really great price! Agent said give her an hour and she would put our car out to bid again to the other 52 drivers in the area. Thankfully, Chicago is a busy route with many drivers in the area. 90 minutes later when I called back (do you see a pattern here?), they thought they had secured a driver for only $200 more than the original quote and that the driver would most likely pick up early the next morning. Thankfully my daughter who had spent her last day in Chicago stuck in the hotel waiting for a call that never came had some flexibility in her plans. I called to tell her pick up would be the next morning only to find that she was with the driver and the car was being loaded onto the carrier that very minute. I had no paperwork and no written quote - only the agents word. A few VMs and emails and days later and I finally had a written contract for the car to be delivered 2 days later than the original estimate. Imagine my surprise (and scramble for hundreds of $$ in cash for the COD) when the driver said he was 5 hours away on the original delivery date. Bottom line - they are attentive until they have your $ - afterwards you have to be on them like a dog with a bone. It all worked out in the end but the stress was very high.
