My second car transport in a couple of months

earlier this year I bought a new car in the midwest. Because of COVID and the restrictions, I had decided to get the car shipped rather than flying out and driving it back. That went well - but - my wife decided she wanted the same car in a different color. Of course, the only one I found was about 10 hours away, so I called Samantha at AmeriFreight for a quote. Two days after I accepted, I got a call that the car could be picked up the next day. I agreed and two days later the car was in my driveway. Positives: AmeriFreight appears to use only reputable companies. Both of my shipments were with different shippers, but each was professional and the drivers were friendly. The trucks were clean and well maintained. Pretty quick - both of the shipments were picked up a couple of days after I got the quote and the cars were picked up on time. It appears that the cars arrived undamaged. They were properly secured on the trucks and nothing was pilfered. Negatives: There are a few - most likely out of the control of AmeriFreight Price increases from the quotes. From what I've learned, the way the system works is that the transport requests get put out on a "board" and the shippers bid on the shipment. If a particular route is desirable and busy, then the prices will be lower. If a route gets busy or things like gas get more expensive, then you'll see the price go up. In my case, I got unlucky and there was an increase in gas prices between the time I got the quote and when I accepted went up quite dramatically which affected the price I paid. I did feel, however, that Samantha did her best to get me the best price - I suspect I would have paid more elsewhere. Both my drivers called when they arrived. The first driver actually arrived two days early (not that I'm complaining) but it was sheer luck that I had gone to the bank early AND was home. It would be nice if the drivers called a few hours in advance. A few things that are strange: AmeriFreight doesn't ask for VIN information - this requires an additional call from the shipper as most dealerships won't release a car without the driver knowing exactly what they are picking up. This is a cash business. Quite frankly, I wouldn't want to be a driver tooling around unfamiliar places with a pocket full of money. Bottom Line: Completely stress free. AmeriFreight/Samantha was incredibly competent and took all of the hassle out of shipping a car.
