Times being what they are, we opted to go with the economy shipping from Amerifreight after a lot of research of different companies. The price fell in the middle of most quotes we received and the company had good feedback. Reading about how the economy rate is for flexible dates, we broadened our availability dates to two weeks thinking it was surely enough time for a "5-7 day window" pick-up time for the economy rate. Also we were living less than a mile from I-40 and less than 20 minutes from I-85, heading to a major city along 2 other major interstates. We were confident our car would be picked up soon.
A week and a half later (7 business days), we started getting really nervous. At that point, Amerifreight added $50 of their commission money to help the car get picked up, and we ended up having to add an extra $100 to tempt someone to get the car (and the driver informed us this was still $50 below the going rate for this route). So the initial offering to pick up the car was a whopping $200 below the going rate and it became obvious why the car hadn't been picked up yet!
All turned out okay in the end. We had to postpone our move by a day because the carrier couldn't get our car for a few days. We were very pleased with the friendliness and speediness of the carrier (Fast Way Transport LLC).
We would have just liked more options to be explored sooner than a week and half after our first available date so that it wouldn't have caused so much stress at the end of the move time. Nobody ever told us that a 2-week shipping window was not considered flexible. It seemed pretty flexible to us.
The representatives from Amerifreight were always courteous and returned our phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner. I give them 4 out of 5 stars overall (although there are 6 options for rating them so I hope this review shows 4 stars) and might use them again now that I'm wiser about shipping timeframes.
