I bought a car through Copart and needed it picked up in Texas and delivered to my home in Virginia. I've never bought from Copart or shipped a car, so had some stress about how it would all work out. I was assisted by David with Ship A Car Direct. Although I would have liked a little more explanation of how the process worked and what to expect, it all went as well as I could have hoped. For newbies like me, here's the deal: SACD appears to be a broker that will advertise your request (and SCAD's proposed price) to a number of independent contract shippers they work with. Waiting for one of the shippers to accept the job represents some time passing that for me was a little stressful since I didn't know how it all works. If they see fit do so the independent contract shippers are able to suggest a price they think the request is worth, and SCAD will contact you to see if you accept it. In my case, the shipper asked $150 more than SCAD had advertised it for - which I accepted. This might seem like a bait/switch to some but if you understand how it works you'll realize it's just a negotiation with the contract shipper. SCAD charges their fee once the contract shipper has agreed to the task and fee. You will need to pay the balance due directly to the contract shipper via cash or cashier's check at time of delivery. I chose the latter since I wanted a paper trail of payment made. Please be aware these are tractor-trailer car haulers... they don't turn around in small spaces, so if you are having your car delivered to a suburban cul-de-sac...(or similar dead end) expect to have it dropped off by the shipper at the closest place he/she can get to without needing to turn around. I found the shipper who shipped my car to be very helpful and easy to communicate (text) with. I was not lacking for information once they had my car. They also jump started it on both ends of the trip with their own equipment since the battery was dead. All-in all, I would not hesitate to use Ship A Car Direct again.
