It's nerve-wracking shopping for a shipper for something as expensive as a car--especially a nice car. After researching the industry and how it works, I decided on Ship a Car Direct based on its reviews and the process the company has in place for scheduling a shipment. I found the instructions, confirmation emails, and Q&A on the site to be very helpful at explaining exactly what I needed to do. The follow-up emails to emphasize what's most important (insurance, damage tracking in their app, etc.) very helpful as well. After registering and requesting a pick-up the process got a little less comforting. I got a call from the shipper pretty quickly, but it was a brief, weird call asking whether I could change the pick-up date. I then got a call a couple days later from the driver. We agreed on a day/time that was different from my request and required me to make the 3 hour drive to meet him on a holiday weekend. When I got there at the appointed time he was not there, so I called him. He said he could get there in a couple hours. So, here I was stuck in a town waiting for him for a couple hours. While I was away killing time, however, he called to say he was already at the car early. All in all the coordination of the pickup was clumsy and inconvenient, which made me very nervous. In the end, the car was loaded onto a large, enclosed truck--an upgrade I had not requested--the driver took off, and he arrived at the destination just as he had estimated. The car arrived without any damage. In the end I'd say the move went very well. The only wildcard was the communication with the actual shipper. Ship a Car Direct did very well for its part of the transaction.
