First time using a broker (we had a family friend who handled our auto shipping, but left the business). Spent 3+ weeks researching brokers, talking to their reps, negotiating... all of it. I knew how shady the industry can be, so I really wanted to be sure that broker fee would be worth it. Had already backed out of two other brokers previous to this, and had one back out on me. Relieved to say that everything worked out well with this company, Ship-a-Car Direct. The rep I spoke to, John, was great--courteous, friendly, and most importantly, direct. He answered my questions with more honesty than all other brokers I talked to. He was not overbearing and worked with me to find a sufficient deal. I still think I paid a bit over market value for this time of year, but I was fine with it. Quality first. I put in the order form on Friday morning and the car was loaded the next day. Thank you John. I would use this company again.
Advice to customers: Do your own due diligence! Become informed about this industry so you don't get ripped off. I chose this company because they are based in the state I was moving to, meaning if there were any issues, I could handle them in person or even in court. Use the FMCSA and SAFER website tools to look up carrier & broker info using MC/USDOT #s. Google & read "CFR Title 49 Subtitle B Chapter III", specifically SubChapter B, Parts 371, 373, 377-379, 386, 387, and 390. Cornell makes these available online for free. Read more if you can. Your auto is your 2nd most expensive possession after your home, so do your homework! Know your rights as a customer in this industry! Don't base your decision solely off reviews, because many of them are falsified/compensated. Talk to brokers, get a feel for them--they may say anything to get your fee and then check out on you. Get answers in writing. Ask the right questions.
All that said, I was very pleased with Ship-a-Car Direct, so give them a look.
