As a student moving out of state accompanied by my family, one of my biggest concerns was making sure my car was shipped between certain dates as well as ensuring the safety of my vehicle. Overall, I had a positive experience, but do have some words of caution. Pros: 1) Ship a Car has great customer service. John, the representative assigned to me and my case, was on top of it. He made sure I was being updated every couple of days about the status of my vehicle being accepted and reached out to quell any concerns or complaints I might have. 2) Very professional shipping company. Ship a Car Direct is a brokerage company. They find qualified shipping companies that will ship your vehicle (kind of like a realtor who takes a fee to help you find a buyer for your house). The shipping company that ended up shipping my vehicle (Kwik Trans) was highly professional. They came to my house early, delivered the vehicle early, spent time inspecting my car before and after, was flexible about moving the time slightly to make shipment/delivery more convenient, etc. One of the reasons why you would use a brokerage company is to allow someone else to do the dirty work in vetting the shipping companies + gaining extra coverage and protection. 3) Good price. I compared Ship a Car Direct's prices with other brokerage companies and found Ship a Car's to be the lowest (excluding sketchy $500 deals). Cons: 1) A quote is just a quote. I ended up having to ship my car for $150 more than Ship A Car's quote estimated despite having a very flexible and wide time range (10 days). However, it ended up working out because my vehicle got to its destination on time and was in a closed carrier instead of the open carrier price I had initially signed up for (score!). However, if you're budgeting out moving costs, please be sure to factor slight surges in price. 2) Little to No Notice when accepting carriers. I was told that a carrier had accepted my vehicle and was going to come sometime during the weekend on a Friday. I got a call Saturday morning from the car shipping company that they were coming in 30 minutes. As I wanted to pack a few boxes in the truck of my car, I was lucky that the driver was able to hold off for an hour. So be prepared to be flexible and plan ahead! All in all, I would use Ship a Car Direct again, but would advise wide and flexible shipping schedules, somewhat flexible budgets, and having patience in the process. (Many can attest to the fact that I started panicking five days before my car had to be shipped, worried that nobody would accept the order).
