The process from start to finish was very fast. I obtained a quote online and was then contacted my someone over email about my request. Once I put the official request in (you don't pay yet... first step is requesting the pick-up date and info along with delivery address, etc.), I didn't hear back from Ship-a-car for the rest of the day. To my surprise, the shipping company that "took" my request from Ship-a-car (who is the 'broker'.. i.e. middle-man) went to pick-up my car the very next day. I had no idea it would happen that quickly. So I signed-off with them and they talked me through when my car would be delivered. I hadn't yet paid ship-a-car. To be honest, I didn't know why I would have to pay ship-a-car at that moment. This transaction is like an individual looking to rent an apartment in new york city. You typically have to pay a broker's fee which is the money that goes to the middle-man (i.e. real estate agent) who facilitates the transaction. But in this case, I basically signed off on my apt without the broker so why pay them after the fact? Anyways, I didn't want there to be an issue so I ended up payin the $225 deposit to ship-a-car. Good margins for that business....

Ok, in summary. I put the request in online on Monday 6/29. Things moved fast. I shipped my car from Atlanta GA on Tuesday 6/30. It arrived in SF, CA on Sunday 7/5. The driver got here on 7/4 but due to crazy July 4th traffic, we scheduled the drop off for Sunday. I paid $1000 in cash to the driver and the shipping company (Rus Al Inc). I paid $225 broker's fee to Ship-A-Car.

5 days. Total cost $1225. No damages to the car (it traveled in the open)
Insurance is $1M. I made the companies send me copies of all of the insurance info. I reco doing that!
