This was my first time shipping a car, and it was definitely overwhelming. I obviously wanted to get it done for the lowest price possible, while also having my car be picked up on time and delivered with no damage, I had deadlines to meet.

I requested LOTS of quotes from various online companies. Most companies were quoting around the same price range, however there were some outliers (ie average was $1200, some quoted $950 and some quoted $1450). Reading the reviews on other companies, I saw that the low quotes were not realistic. The broker will quote you one price, try to get a driver to pick your car up for that price, and it will never happen. Eventually the broker will raise your quote up (and you wasted a ton of time (and in my case it would be money since for everyday I got charged a storage fee). I learned that all these brokers post "jobs/pickups" on the same website (CentralDispatch.com) which they have access to, so they can all get the job done for about the same price, nobody can magically do it for way less. In addition, some brokers will offer "discounts" or "coupons," but don't fall for those. All they do is take that discount off what the truck driver will make, so your car will have less incentive to be picked up. Some brokers also lied and said they were carriers (very few are carriers, and so I gave up on working with a carrier directly. DAS is a carrier but was very expensive for even the most basic services and they take a long time).

I also tried to use UShip, however my quotes were higher on that site than from the brokers I contacted directly. I could of possibly negotiated them down, but I had limited time for doing so.

Calling truck drivers directly also delivered little success, as most drivers were not interested.

In the end I decided to go with Safe-Direct for several reasons. 1) Safe-Direct required no up-front deposit. 2) The quoted price was in-line with other companies' quotes. 3) Rodney sounded professional unlike other brokers. 4) Rodney was easy to get a hold of. 5) Rodney didn't seem desperate and didn't constantly spam me. 6). Rodney seemed honest and knowledgeable. 7). I got a good feeling that Rodney would not low ball the truck driver (to maximize his profit), and would thus actually get my car picked up on time (so I didn't have to pay additional storage fees).

Overall the experience turned out great. Rodney found a truck driver within a few hours after I submitted my application. I paid the deposit immediately and my car was picked up within a few more hours. The truck driver didn't quite update me (and he had no tracking system), but he would always pickup the phone and gladly chat with me on my car's status if I called. He spoke English with no problems. The car arrived a day earlier than the driver quoted (took only 7 days from coast-to-coast, the driver did call the day before delivery to give me a heads up) and in safe and sound condition. Rodney also followed up with me to make sure everything went without a hitch.

Overall if I would of went with Safe-Direct from the beginning I would have been way less stressed.
