Lack of communication; price increased

After this review was published, David refunded my $200 deposit to Safe-Direct, bringing the final price below the initial bid. I appreciated the receptiveness and fast action to resolve my grievance. My rating has been adjusted accordingly.

I contacted Safe-Direct over a month before my planned car shipment. Their website seemed professional and comprehensive. David promptly helped me with a quote ($825 from LA to Chicago) and kept "in touch" with (seemingly) automated emails in the weeks leading up to my move.

As my shipment date approached, I expected to receive details on my carrier about a week out. It was important for me to meet the target date since I had a flight the next day to leave Los Angeles. When I had not received details on a carrier over the weekend before my move, I became extremely concerned.

David told me on Friday that he would check in with me on Saturday at midday, but he was impossible to contact over the weekend by phone and email, as was the Safe-Direct office. When I finally did hear from him, he told me that the quote price wasn't attracting carriers and that we would need to increase it. He did not offer any suggestions of how much to increase it, so I suggested we could go up to $1000. It seems to me he didn't incrementally increase the bid, rather jumped up to $1000 immediately.

Having committed almost $200 extra to this move, there was (of course) a bite and David arranged a carrier quite quickly. The carrier, M2R Auto Transport, Inc., was very courteous and communicative; I did not have any problems on that front.

Overall, I am disappointed by the lack of professionalism, respect, and transparency that David with Safe-Direct provided. I would not recommend that others pursue a car shipment with this broker.
