I decided to ship my car from Davis, California to Providence, Rhode Island instead of trying to drive from coast to coast by myself in the middle of January. Once I did the calculating, I figured I would save very little money, if any, driving my car myself and decided to use those five days of driving more productively by flying and getting settled into my new job and home in RI. Having done this with very little hassle, I would most certainly do it again via Safe-Direct Car Shipping.

Everything went pretty smoothly with Safe-Direct. What was most annoying for me was all the discussion online around this whole business of shipping a car. So many sites, and so much talk about scams and how to get the best deal etc. I just wanted to ship my car and be done with it. I ended up going with Safe-Direct because they are a BBB approved business. For this same reason, I would choose them over other options. They managed to get my car delivered to me in a total of 9 days for $1225.00. Maybe I just got lucky, but I would happily pay the same if I had to do it again.

I communicated mostly with David as I placed the order. David was readily available via email and phone, which I greatly appreciated. I do, however, have two small complaints: The first is that David told me multiple times that my cities of pickup and delivery were not very convenient for getting a carrier assigned. I found this to be unhelpful. He went on to explain in great detail why more than once. The thing is, I really didn't care to hear all these details. I had many other things to think about as I planned to move across country. I just wanted my car shipped. Tell me to bump up the price an extra $50 or $100 because of my odd locations- done. That would've been fine. Instead, there was way too much discussion about how other cities are better and how the whole business works. While David was kind to try to explain these things (I'm sure many customers want to know every last thing), I would have appreciated a little less explanation and a little more action. In the end, it did take a few extra days to get someone to bid on my car, but all it took was raising the price very little (between $25 and $50). When you're already spending $1,000 this little bit extra is pretty insignificant and not worth all the discussion. My second complaint is that the carrier was scheduled to pick up my car on a Saturday and called my friend who was to sign off on my car in Davis for me multiple times, each time backing up the time. In the end, he didn't pick up my car until Sunday night (after several calls during the day on Sunday as well). What this did was made my friend spend her entire weekend at home waiting.

Though I have these two small complaints, I still recommend Safe-Direct. I felt safe shipping my car with them and with all that could have gone wrong when considering the task of shipping a car from one coast to another (extended delays, damage, etc.), things worked out pretty perfectly. Safe-Direct isn't the cheapest company to use but it is also far from the most expensive. I could have possibly paid a few hundred dollars less with another company that wasn't BBB approved, but I was looking for a company I could trust and found that in Safe-Direct.
