My car shipping experience began because my Fiance was separating from the Air Force. Since we had two vehicles, it was necessary to ship one and drive the other. After searching online and the Better Business Bureau, I came to the conclusion to choose Safe-Direct for our car shipping needs. After submitting a request on the Safe-Direct website, we were contacted by Chris. Chris was very helpful whenever I had a question regarding the process or shipping. Since I was shipping my Subaru Outback from Baltimore Maryland to Denver Colorado, Chris quoted me a price of $1045 after completing this survey. I tried to haggle with Chris on the quoted price but had no luck. He said he quotes prices by what other customers have paid for similar ships. I was disappointed with this because my Fiance had his car shipped from Chicago Illinois to San Angelo Texas for under half of that price. Anyhow, I wanted the vehicle to be picked up no later then the 27th of October, 2012 and delivered after the 7th of November 2012. When I told Chris my dates he told me it typically takes about 6 days to deliver a car from Maryland to Colorado. Additionally he said that my dates between delivery and drop off exceed that 6 day average which would reduce my chances and actually getting my car shipped on time. So, I went ahead and put in those dates anyway and the 26th of October came. I had not heard from Chris about a company choosing to accept my order so I called him. As it turned out, my order was put in to pick up my vehicle after the 27th, not before. So I had Chris change the order and he again informed me of the 6 day average for shipment and how it may impact a company picking up my order. So the 27th came and went, and on the 5th of November at about 5 or 6 pm I received a call from Chris saying a company has chosen to accept my order. This was great news. However, he also said that the shipping company requested an additional $50 dollars. I asked Chris why they all of asudden wanted more money and he replied that some companies typically request between $25 and $50 dollars for one reason or another. Since I was in a pinch and had to have my car shipped, I reluctantly accepted. The car was picked up the next day on the 6th of November with no issues and delivered on the 12th. The car was dirty. Very dirty. But so far, I have found no serious problems with the vehicle. I may use Safe-Direct in the future, or maybe I wont. I for sure will shop around more for better prices though. I drove our Ford Escape from Maryland to Colorado and didn't spend anywhere close to $1125 on gas. If I were a future customer I would calculate how much money you could save by driving the car yourself versus choosing a car shipping company to do it for you.
