I bought a used, but relatively new BMW from a dealership in Pennsylvania. After deciding that I wanted to buy the car, I began searching for a transport company that is affordable and reputable. Safe-Direct Car Shipping fit the bill. One of the things I particularly like about this company is that it provides an additional assurance if there is any dispute with transport damage. So I called their number and spoke with Tom, who was very informative and helpful. He told me the approximate cost and the time frame in which the carrier would deliver my car to California. I was comfortable with the transaction and put a deposit for the delivery.

Tom updated me the carriers who were interested in delivering my car. Even though the carrier (SafeTransporters, Inc.) counteroffered with a higher price, I accepted and the deal was done. I followed up with my dealership and the pickup was confirmed. In about four days, less time than I was told for the delivery to be made, I received a call from the driver saying that my car was within the area. Because the carrier was an open transport and my city did not allow trucks over 3 tons, the driver drove my car to my house.

When I arrived to see the car, I noticed it was very filthy (open transport). I examined the car carefully - I was told very explicitly not to sign the bill of laden until I carefully examined the car. I noticed that there were a couple pieces of small, but noticeable damage that were not notated on the bill of laden. When I told the driver, he immediately defended that it was already there and that there was no way such a small damage could be caused from him/transport. I had made sure that my dealer informed me of every bit of damage and even the driver had inspected it while the car was still clean and shiny at the dealership. So for me to be able to find the damage on a dirt/mud crusted car after being on an open carrier in the rain/wind, that should have been easily discovered by the driver. The driver reluctantly listed the damage but without my knowledge listed it as "not transport damage."

I immediately informed Tom of the damage and he quickly gave me the information for SafeTransporters, Inc.'s insurance information. I called its insurance and am in the process of getting it resolved, despite getting the same run-around from the owner of SafeTransporters, Inc.

Overall, Tom and Safe-Direct Car Shipping have been very great and helpful. I will use their service again in the future, but I hope they do not allow SafeTransporters to be one of their carriers. Thanks Tom!
