Don't just go with the lowest quote!

I had a purely positive experience with what could have been a very stressful time. I was shipping my new car from Ohio to Oregon. James was the first broker to call me after I submitted my quote (on a Sunday!). I didn't commit until the following day because I researched other companies and reviews first. I called James back and told him I had received a lower quote from another broker, but I was concerned about some of the other broker's negative reviews.

I told James if he could match that quote I would go with him. He then explained to me how the process works. When the broker gives a quote, they haven't actually secured a driver. Rather, you are agreeing to let the broker post your job for that amount. If the amount is too low, a driver will not likely take it. James said he could easily post the job for that amount, but the chances of a shipper accepting the job were lower. Then, I would eventually have to wait for a while or raise the price. Most of the negative reviews I read about other companies described exactly that. People complained a lot about no-shows and price changes.

James was upfront and honest about which part of the quote was going to broker fees, and how much was going to the shipper. Once I knew how the process worked, I decided on Philam. James called the very next morning and said the truck would be by to pick it up that same day! I was thrilled!

As soon as I agreed to use the shipper James found, he sent me an email containing all the shipper's info, such as license numbers, insurance policy numbers, equipment information, etc. He also gave me the driver's direct cell phone number and told me I could call to check on my baby at any time during transit.

The car arrived in Oregon two days early and in perfect condition. I was extremely nervous about handing over the keys to strangers, bu after this experience, I will not be nervous to us this company again. The only slight negative is that there was a little bit of a language barrier with the driver because English wasn't his first language, but I was also given the number to his dispatcher who could speak more fluently, so it wasn't much of an issue.
