I needed to ship a '71 Corvette across the country in order to start a restoration on it. The car had been stored in a shed for the past 21 years and even though it wasn't running or in great shape, I still wanted it to be well taken care of. I wanted nothing to do with small time or part time operators, schedule revisions, repeated loading and unloading, trailer and/or driver changes, wharehouses or storage yards, price increases, or any other of the horror stories you sometimes hear/read about when researching automobile transportation. I was willing to pay a bit more for the peace of mind and plenty of TLC I coveted.

I got price quotes from four professional enclosed-carrier outfrits. Intercity Lines came in with the lowest price quote and from the other information and testimonials on them that I found, I chose to go with Intercity Lines. On 11/17, I firmed up the reservation and told them the car would be available for pick-up on or after 12/1. They explained that they already had three cars lined up to go from the east coast to the west coast and I was number four. They'd get back with me to schedule a firm pick-up date as soon as they received two more cars heading that way. They wanted to have a full load of six cars for the run since it was a non-typical routing for them. On 12/3, they called and set the pickup for 12/13. It might have even been a week earlier, but the truck they planned to use for my run was going to be repainted the following week so it'd be ready for the big auto shows and auctions beginning in January. Jim, Nikki and Sharon in the home office were all very efficient and easy to work with.

The driver, Joe, showed up a bit early Monday morning and we pushed the car onto the hydraulic loading ramp without any problems. Since my car was the first pickup for the run, he quickly had it loaded into the forward position on the upper deck of the enclosed trailer. Since it was a non-runner, he said it would stay in that position all the way to the destination. He secured it using racheting straps over each tire (no possibility of body or frame damage), covered the car and was on the road again for another pickup. He had other pickups and dropoffs in CT, NJ, PA, WV, IN, ID and WA along the way to my place so he figured about 6 or 7 days until my delivery. Joe called me on Friday from Iowa and set the delivery at my WA house for Monday afternoon. He showed up at my house on time and quickly and efficiently unloaded the three cars blocking my car and then unloaded mine. The other cars were re-loaded and he was off again for more pickups and deliveries.

While Intercity Lines is not the cheapest you'll find, you do get what you pay for. In my book, good drivers, nice equipment, and well-treated cars are worth the extra cost for the extra peace of mind they provide. I highly recommend Intercity Lines for safe, hassle-free auto transport.
