I am writing this complaint about Dependable Auto Shippers and how they handled the
recent shipping of my vehicle. I placed my order with Tom Dickson on 10/28/09 and he
assured me that it would take no longer than 10 days to deliver my SUV to Las Vegas
after pickup in NY. He said the latest date for delivery would be 11/16/09 in the worst
case scenario. After calling and complaining numerous times to DAS because my vehicle
was not delivered yet, it finally arrived to Las Vegas on 11/21/09.
When I picked up my vehicle I did a walk around and check and I noticed there was some
damage on the front bumper and the vehicle was EXTREMELY dirty. I noted it on the
Bill of Lading. I talked to the delivery agent and he said to take it or leave it and if I left it
they would charge me storage fee. He told me to simply file a claim with DAS and that
he had nothing to do with it. I accepted the truck and immediately took it to the car wash
and had it cleaned. That is when I noticed the second problem. There was a substance like
tree sap on the side of the truck that will not come off. I called DAS the next business day
and filed a claim.
After filing a claim with DAS and getting an estimate to fix the damages, Linda James
the claims representative said they were responsible and were willing to pay the $150 to
settle the claim as per the contract. I hardly find that a fair settlement when the expense to
fix it was about $1,100. Ms. James kept on reverting back to the Bill of Lading saying
that’s what I agreed to. I never even saw the Bill of Lading until about a week after the
vehicle was picked up in NY and in the possession of DAS. My father, who was there for
pick up in NY, sent me the copy that the driver gave him.
As a potential customer of DAS, one never has advanced notice of the specific terms of
the deal. Once DAS has your vehicle you are at their mercy for delivery time and
condition. This is not how an auto shipper (with DEPENDABLE in its name) should treat
their customers. DAS’s contract is so convoluted and hard to understand for the layman,
therefore this kind of misleading practice must be stopped!!!
In short, when DAS picked up my vehicle this damage was not there and now it is.
Ultimately, they should be accountable.
Sincerely,
Paul
