You be the judge! I recently hired DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers) to pick up three cars for me, one in Wisconsin and two in Florida. I paid to have the first car from FL to my home in Oregon in a covered transport. The car was not delivered to my home in a covered transport. The car in Wisconsin was picked up near Green Bay by DAS on January 4th, 08 and dropped off at their depot in Frankford, IL the same day. I was told it would be kept inside their facility at the depot. Today, January 16th. I received a call today from DAS informing me that they would not ship the car because it would not start and the handbrake was locked up! The car ran and the break worked when they picked up the car. The owner informed the driver about starting the car. In my conversation with Larry I was told that they do not have enclosed storage at that site. The car sat outside all that time! He indicated that he would call me back after checking with the terminal again. Two hours later I received a call informing me that they could not haul the car and that I had to remove it from the property!!! Da! I live in Oregon, I hired them to haul the car, they picked it up, now I’m %(*&#$!!! After some choice conversation he said they could haul the car for an additional $380.00!!!
The other Florida car never left the drawing board, so to speak. I called DAS again, prior to confirming the transaction and spoke to Lisa. I informed her that the car was inoperable. She said it would require a special haul with a wench and that it would be in a covered trailer. I had documented the conversation. After purchasing the car I call Lisa again to make final arrangement to haul the car. Confirming the price she said that that was for hauling an operable car in an open carrier! I indicated that that is not what she had quoted me. Her price this time was an additional $1000.00. I went elsewhere.
If you still think you would like to do business with DAS than have them send you a quote in writing before having any dealings with them. Better yet find someone else.
