After shopping around, I found that Autoline Transport had the lowest price. I shipped my Mitsubishi Lancer from Chicago to La Jolla at the end of May 2011. Nathan was readily available to answer all my questions through email and phone, a little too available, one might say, as he followed up with me almost every day until I completed my order.

Shipping Time: I was told that it took a while to find a carrier because my car was picked up 7 days after my first available date. This was not too surprising because I did not pay extra to have the guaranteed shipping date, so I was warned that it could take up to 9 days from my first available date. This is definitely something that one should keep in mind when scheduling their pickup, especially if the car is needed right away at your destination! The car was picked up around 4p on a Monday and dropped off around 6:30p that Thursday.

Pickup: I was told that I would get an email about 24 hours before the pickup and a phone call about 10 hours prior. Well, the guy called about 2 hours before he was coming to pick up my car! They want the car to only have about 1/4 of your gas tank full, but 2 hours was not enough time for me to empty the tank that much, so mine was slightly over. What sort of made up for the short notice was the guy asked for suggestions on a meeting place large enough for his trailer, then drove me back home in my car so I didn't need someone else to pick me up.

Drop off: I received a call about 24 hours in advance to let me know around when my car would arrive. I asked if they could drop off the car after 5pm so I would be off of work and they said they would do the best they could (The guy dropped off my car last, after 5pm). Again, I was asked for a suggestion on where the trailer would fit and the driver was able to park right outside my building.

Payment: There was a little confusion with the price. My order was confirmed for $770. I put down a deposit of $175, so I expected to pay $595 when my car was delivered. However, in the notification email stating my car was scheduled for pickup, my invoice showed that the total had changed to $820. I immediately called Nathan, and he said that they had trouble finding a carrier for the original price. He told me to pay the extra $50 to the driver, and the company would reimburse the $50 to me after. I paid the driver using a cashier's check (bank charged me $10), but he said I could have paid with a money order instead. I just spoke with Nathan and he said the company would be sending me the $50 by check.

My car arrived in good shape, although it appears the driver may have forgotten to take off my external radio antenna originally because I found it in my back seat with more wear and tear than I remember, though I can't be certain. Overall, I had a good experience with Autoline Transport and will probably use them again to ship my car back to Chicago.
