Lies, lies, lies

I chose American on a recommendation and they offered a military discount for my military move. They quoted me $1250, $150 up front and $1100 COD. I asked VERY specific questions:
- Do you own/operate your own trucks? Yes.
- What is the window for pickup? One day? Five days? We will be there on that day, period. No window.

One day before pickup I got a call from a different carrier that asked what I paid. I didn't think it was any of his business but he said the "posting" listed my delivery as $1300 COD. He was from a rival company so I wasn't sure if I should believe him so I called American. "No, you're being listed at $1100 COD." Okay, I was still satisfied...however at this time a driver wasn't available on my pickup date. This doesn't sound like a company that owns its own trucks, but okay, I'm still going along with it for now.

Finally, I get a call saying they have a driver and a truck three days late. I'll take it. "But here's the deal...in order to book him we said we had to pay him $1300 COD." I called him on his lie but, in typical fashion of people that lie, he backpedaled and saying they never said anything like what I posted above and that they always said prices varied, and continued rattling on and passing the buck.

Yep, cancelled. I'm not using a company like this to transport my roadster. Never. Tell me upfront if you're going to try this on me. Tell me up front that fees may vary but like I said, I asked VERY specific questions and their emails mention "other" companies that try these tactics...yet they do it themselves. Use these guys if you want but have extra cash on hand because you'll need it. I'm never going to trust them with my money.

I gave them 5 stars for being knowledgable because, in my opinion, they knew what they were doing from the get-go...but it wasn't honest.
