I moved from Georgia to Washington on October 15th, 2009. I signed a contract with the company Auto Transport in Coconut Creek Florida (888-402-7447) to transport my 1998 Dodge Dakota truck to my new WA home. They told me that they would subcontract the work to another company who would then physically transport the vehicle by open car carrier and would pick up the vehicle form my GA home on October 12th with a 48 hour window. On the afternon of the 13th I called the company to see where the driver was and they told me he was two days behind schedule and could not pick up the truck until Thursday evening. Communication was terrible with these guys! I had a flight booked for the 14th so I had to arrange for a friend to meet the driver on Thursday night at 10:30PM. She went over the bill of lading and inspected the vehicle with the driver before he loaded it and drove away. When the truck arrived in WA it had two broken windows, body damage and the tonneau cover on the bed was completely torn off and in a pile on the passenger seat.
The estimate for the damage to my truck during transport came in at $4,313.00. The blue book value for my vehicle is roughly $5,500.00 and had the estimate surpassed the current value, my truck would have been declared totaled by my insurance company and I'd be more or less without a vehicle. My insurance company is luckily covering these expenses and will be pursuing Advance Car Carrier and possibly the contracting company Auto Transport to reclaim this loss. The truck is getting repaired in the meantime.
I want to make this information public so that no one else's vehicle is mishandled by these two companies.
