I requested quotes to move a vehicle I purchased in TX to OH on http://quotes.movemycar.com and received several quotes via email. One of these quotes was from a company called ABRACADABRA AUTO TRANSPORTERS LLC. Once I reviewed the quotes and did some research to verify the legitimacy of the companies, I contacted Abracadabra via email to get some more details and explain a special circumstance. The special circumstance was that I had an agent completing my transaction for me with a set date for that transaction and vehicle pickup. I was assured that it was not a problem.
One annoyance was that the company refused to do business over email and always instructed me to call. When I obliged and called, most of the time I would get a cell phone voice mail box for Jorge Pena with a company name that was indiscernible. When I was able to speak with Jorge and communicate via text messages, he was very pleasant and personable.
Even though I was told that picking up the vehicle on a certain date (10 day notice) wouldn't be a problem, a few days before the pickup date, I was informed that no carriers were biting on moving my vehicle and that I should throw more money at the situation. This was because of details that were known from the beginning - the vehicle was a long bed pickup truck and the carriers do not like to commit to specific days and time windows.
At this point, I was concerned that I would not have enough time to go with another company, and Jorge (Abracadabra) had already charged my credit card with his fee ($125) which is the deposit. The day before the pickup was to occur, there was still no carriers that were picking up the transport. Jorge stopped being as responsive and when I expressed my concern, he took a screen shot of his jtracker.com software screen to assure me that he had done his job and that it would get moved, just not in my timeline. Without my approval, he increased the tariff to get a carrier to transport. It was my understanding that the extra money was conditional to the specific day and time window that I was trying to meet, which had already came and gone.
He then called the day after the vehicle was to be picked up to let me know that a carrier had agreed to transport the vehicle. He indicated that the carrier would be contacting me to finalize the details. The night before the new scheduled pickup, I informed Jorge that I did not get a call from the carrier and my agent was not happy with the lack of communication. At that point, Jorge would not return my calls, emails or text messages.
My agent informed me that the carrier called him directly and scheduled the pickup. I sent another message to Jorge requesting the final amount owed to the carrier and he replied "OK" and I never got an amount. Jorge talks a big game and gives the impression that he is a 24-hour operation. Response time is not what he claims and many times calls go into voicemail. I would not use the services of Abracadabra again.
