AK Auto Transport gave me two options for shipping my vehicle: on a barge or on a truck. Truck was an extra $100, but should arrive 7-10 days sooner. I was buying this vehicle, so I had the seller drop the vehicle off in Anchorage, but I paid and was to take delivery in Tacoma.
I've no idea if the price was fair - it seemed to be to me, which is was counts. The service, however, was poor. Each time I called it seemed I needed to re-explain myself, and I had to call many times in the process of the transaction.
First, the company never called to tell me they had taken delivery of the vehicle, nor that it had shipped, so I had to call several times in order to find out when to expect delivery. Then I was called 7 days after it shipped to tell me I could pick up the vehicle in Tacoma in two days. I booked a flight and rented a car and was ready to pick up the vehicle. Only AFTER I arrived in Tacoma did I find out that the transport truck had broken down in BC and it would be several days before I could expect the vehicle. I was promised a phone call to clarify when to take delivery. Two days passed and they didn't call. So I called back and once again explained myself. I was again told that the truck was broken down, but that delivery would likely be another two to five days. After I explained to the rep that I needed to plan travel to pick up the vehicle, he agreed to call me back when he knew when the vehicle would arrive.
He didn't call.
So I called again four days later to find out status, and was told that the vehicle had been delivered the day before. Fantastic. No one called me.
This would not have been such a problem if I had been local to Tacoma and not in the middle of a purchase, but the lack of communication from AK Auto Transport was terrible, both for me (out approx. $400 for plane tix and rental car) and for the seller of the vehicle (waiting for the money from escrow).
Would not recommend; would not do business with them again.
