Poor customer service

I chose this company because they claimed to have expertise in moving cars overseas and because they offered a competitive quote. Starting with positives to the experience, I did receive my car in good condition.

Moving to negatives, first, I experienced the customer service personnel to be professional and friendly prior to my signing the contract but quite rude and unprofessional afterwards. One staff person on the phone rushed me off after telling me that I dialed the wrong department (sales) and referring me to customer service. On more than one occasion when I dialed the customer service line, no one picked up and I got a fax machine beep. Once I got a busy signal.

The biggest negative for me was in poor communication; and it almost cost me an extra $240! My car was picked up in Georgia on July 10 with an estimated delivery date on July 29th. I called on July 23 to check on the status of my car. They told me that it was en route on the boat to Hawaii and that I would be contacted when it arrived. At that time I updated them on my new phone number in Hawaii. I called on July 30th to check on the status. Customer service told me that my car had arrived on the 20th and to contact the boat company (Horizon Lines) that AAA Anytime had contracted with. I contacted Horizon who told me that the car had arrived on July 25th. Horizon tried to contact me but all they had was my old phone number which had been disconnected. AAA never updated Horizon on my new phone number! Not only that, but I initially (when I signed the contract) had given AAA phone numbers of family in Hawaii to use and apparently, Horizon wasn't given these (or perhaps Horizon never tried these). The earliest appointment Horizon could give me to pick up the car from the port was Aug. 1st. When I went to pick it up, they were going to charge us an extra $240 for storing the car since July 25! Fortunately, when the Horizon staffer saw our last name and realized she knew my father, she waived the fee.

All in all, I would not recommend AAA Anytime. I would try and go with a company that uses Matson boats to ship cars to Hawaii, since Matson allows you to pick up your car right away without having to schedule an appointment for 2 days later like Horizon did.

Dear Mr. Pien, We are pleased that the delivery went as expected however, we are very sorry that you were not contacted upon arrival. Every year we ship about 2,200 cars to and from Hawaii. The vast majority go perfectly. Again, we are very sorry you were not contacted upon arrival.
