This company has never heard of the phrase "customer service". I set my move up several weeks in advance. When the day came for the car to be picked up, I called them and was told that the truck had mechanical problems and not yet left Florida. I was told that it would be leaving that evening (a Thursday). On Friday I called again and was told that the truck still had problems (do they not have but one truck?) and that it was leaving Friday evening and that the car would be picked on the following Monday. Monday rolls around and still no transporter. By this time, I have left the state with all of my personal goods and am 1000 miles away. This time I am told that they cannot find the driver, but that they have paged him. I checked later in the day and they still had not raised the driver. Tuesday I called and was told that the truck still had not left Florida but that they were trying to contract with another carrier to get the car picked up (guess that's why they could not find the driver on Monday). I also found out that this firm is a brokerage which sort of explains their lack of control of the situation (but still inexcusable). Wednesday (today) I cannot get anyone at A Economy to talk to me.
This company REFUSES to return phone calls or messages. When I finally did talk to the Branch Manager on Tuesday, he got an attitude with me. I am now asking for my money back so that I can call a RELIABLE carrier who has some concept of customer service. Meanwhile, my sister-in-law has had to move the car and leave it on her driveway until I can find a carrier to pick it up. This company is awful!!
Update: 9/21/00. Although the company offered to refund my purchase price of $595 (minus a $50 cancellation fee), I have yet to received the credit to my card. I have begun pursuing the matter through Mastercard. I have also reported this company to the Better Business Bureau.
