i contacted autotransportdirect.com to ship my car from los angeles, ca to jersey city, nj. i trusted them so i didn't look up the company they assigned my car to.

the car was scheduled to be picked up in los angeles, ca off of the western blvd exit on the 101. i worked on sunset blvd off of van ness a few blocks away. the day before the pickup the driver called to say he would be at the pickup location by 12noon. the next day i called him at 12:30 b/c i didn't hear from him. he said he would be at van ness by 2pm. due to his VERY THICK accent i didn't realize he was saying VAN NUYS. he mentioned an auto shop and i asked him the cross street and he said burbank. i said are you in the valley, he said no. i figured i would figure it out.

around 2pm he called to tell me he was at the location. earlier i searched the internet for the auto shop he mentioned and i couldn't find it. i asked him the cross streets again and he said burbank, blvd. i said, "you're in the valley!" he yelled, "i'm not in the valley, i'm in van nuys! where the 101 and the 405 (freeways) meet !" (everybody in los angeles knows that van nuys is considered the valley) i was in hollywood. he wanted me to drive 15-20 miles to meet him. l.a. is not like n.y. you can't just drive somewhere and catch a bus or a train back! he had a pick up at lax and did not want to drive to hollywood (where i was).

he kept insisting that he couldn't pick up my car at western exit off of the 101 freeway. i know he could b/c my car was dropped off there in january when i moved to ca. he called me around 7:30 to say he was at the western exit off of the 101. i needed 20 minutes to get to him. after i waited for him all day, he yelled that he could only wait 10 minutes b/c the cops would give him a ticket. he said he wasn't going to wait. i went to the location and he was waiting. it was dark by this time. he had the audacity to tell me that he couldn't guarantee inspection b/c it was dark! i said i can't give you my brand new car without an inspection, there's a gas station one block up, you can inspect it there. he refused and said he was leaving. he put his ramp on his 18 wheeler up and he took off!

i kept autotransportdirect informed every step of the way. i left them a voicemail (they were closed by this time).

and here's the kicker...the driver told his company i never showed up for the pickup!
