Terrible Experience with UFA

Bottom line: I contracted United Freight of America to transport a 5x9 enclosed utility trailer containing my elderly parent's household goods and I received an empty trailer, requiring me to tell my dying mother that her stuff was stolen.

I strongly recommend NOT using United Freight of America or ANY transport broker. From what I understand, transport brokers list shipping needs on a central board allowing various carriers to accept the shipping job. You don’t know what type of people or service you’ll get.

I strongly recommend contracting directly with a local carrier having a good business record. LOCAL, because if you wish to take legal action it must be processed in the defendants State and County.

Summary of my experience:

• Contracted with UFA to ship trailer from TX to CO, agent fully aware of personal contents residing within

• UFA explained since the trailer was in a remote part of TX, need to have two carriers. 1st carrier to pickup and deliver to central hub then 2nd from central hub to CO and there would be an extra charge. I was assured the central hub was secure.

• At pickup the trailer was unlocked and opened with the 1st carrier present, contents was intact and keys given to carrier

• Trailer arrived empty with no signs of forced entry, delivery carrier said it was empty upon pickup at central hub

• UFA stated their Terms & Conditions: UFA is not responsible for contents inside the vehicle (is a 5x9 enclosed utility trailer a vehicle?)

• Local authorities would not file report since there is no way of knowing where the theft took place and recommended filing a report in TX

• Any legal action requires me (parents) to file in FL

I only know of the last carrier and received only their bill of lading paperwork. I researched this last carrier and found many, very disturbing reports.

Good luck on your shipment, I hope you have better luck than I.
