Good service but bait and switch

I am happy to report that Sonic Auto Transportation successfully hired a responsible driver and truck to transport my auto across country. It arrived quickly and on time. That, however, is only half of the equation. Sonic had offered me a price of $990 to ship my car from PA to CA. We had a signed contract. On the day the shipper was supposed to pick up my car, Sonic called me and said that their driver had dropped out, but that they had found one who was willing to do the job for $1400, a substantial increase in price. I pointed out that we had a signed contract at an agreed upon price. To them, that didn't matter, and, of course, they had me over a barrel. I was due to leave PA the following day and needed my car picked up. So, I was forced to agree to their new terms, and I'm not even sure that I believed their story. To me, this was pure bait and switch. I'm sure that they understand that most customer are one and done. As a result, it doesn't matter to them how satisfied their customers are because they don't expect repeat business. There are plenty of other companies that I could use, but I chose Sonic for two reasons. One was positive reviews; the other was the fair price. I now understand that the price didn't mean anything despite our contract.

Dear William, we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We understand your frustration with the unexpected increase in shipping costs. We made sure to explain the reason why it happened and we are thankful to you for accepting a new quote. As for the original driver, this is definitely not acceptable, we will put him on our Black List and make sure not to ever work with this company. Also, we have rated them negative on our main National Load Board Central Dispatch. This is definitely not the experience we want to provide. We are very sorry for such an inconvenience, we will work hard to foresee such situations in the future. As for the new carrier, we are only the middleman between you and the driver and have no power to determine the final cost, only to make an impact on the driver in order to make the price as reasonable as possible.
