I just recently returned from a 15 month deployment and am in the process of moving to a new duty station. My husband moved before I did and I was trying to ship his car to him using Secure Auto based upon the fact that there was only a $300 deposit up front and ALL other charges ($1825) due upon delivery....according to Troy. In fact, all the the paperwork says this as well. It took almost 2 weeks to get a booking number and Troy only returned one of my calls. He was rarely at his desk and trying to contact customer services was difficult as well. I planned to ship my car on 15 Aug and because I am in the military, I had to carefully plan the arrangement of this between work, child care and someone to follow me down to the port, which is only open M-F). I was told by Troy that I was set for the 15th (Friday) and my car needed to be at the port no later than the Tues prior to shipment date of 15 Aug. I did not get a booking number until 11 Aug...THE DAY BEFORE I WAS TO TAKE IT TO PORT. This was only because I called frantically requesting this number and left several messages. Miranda, customer service promptly returned my call and noted, "by the way...don't forget the $875 due to MATSON at drop off". THIS WAS NOT PART OF ANY OF THE PAPERWORK OR CONVERSATIONS I HAD WITH TROY. Yes, she was apologetic and believed it was an "oversight". OVERSIGHT???? THIS IS YOUR JOB!!! I was very clear with Troy and asked repeatedly if there were any other charges, to include the pesky disclaimer of additional fuel surcharges, and the answer was...everything was included and besides the upfront deposit, nothing was due until delivery was made in Massachussetts! So I called MATSON with my booking number to confirm drop off time on 12 Aug and they informed me that I also needed to bring a notarized letter from my husband approving that I ship his car. Understandable why they would need this, but did Secure Auto tell me this....NO! (keep in mind time zone changes from Hawaii and I'm still trying to ship the car tomorrow because I planned this out in detail....there's no notary at 10pm ordinarily). I called MATSON back to confirm if I needed a new booking number if I couldn't get the car to them tomorrow (with the new upfront fee of $875 and a notarized letter). MATSON then tells me that they don't even ship out on Fridays and if I brought it to them tomorrow, it wouldn't even get shipped until the 25th. At this point all I could do is laugh at how rediculous this was and I should have paid the extra $200 to another company to relieve this hassle and "...oh by the ways....". Very bad business on their part. As a military service member, I do not recommend this company to anyone if you are trying to go the "stress-free" route. I almost had to smoke a cigarette:)
