Lied about guarantee, refused to refund deposit

I began on excellent terms with Matt from Prestige Auto Shippers. He was pleasant and helpful. I told him I had already sold my car and was expecting twins, so I needed my Odyssey shipped ASAP. He guaranteed, first verbally, then in a written email, that my car would be picked up by the following Friday. I paid my deposit. That was about the last I heard from him.
After my payment was received, Matt ceased to answer calls or emails. When the car was not picked up by the guaranteed day, I finally managed to get hold of him, and he told me a story about how he had found a transporter who then ran into engine trouble. Although he had initially promised that he would take money out of his profit on the deal if he could not find a carrier by the guaranteed date, Matt made no move to do this. He had no plan for getting my car picked up.
I told him I wanted to end our business dealing with each other, as he had broken his guarantee, and he refused to refund my money. He said according to the company's terms and conditions, he had 10-14 days to find me a carrier. Those terms and conditions had never been shown to me, AND this should not apply to my case anyway, as it completely disregarded the promise he made me. Furthermore, I found out from another transporter company that the tale of the transporter with engine trouble was a lie, as my car had in fact never left the boards.
In summary. they took my money, made promises they did not keep, and refused to refund me when they did not do as they promised. My $200 may be gone forever to these cheaters, but I'll take some solace in the hope that I may keep someone else out of their claws.
