Service from the actual carrier was not great

As far as I can tell, Nationwide did a fine job; they just referred me to a carrier.

The carrier got the job done, but it wasn't the most professional job ever. The delivery address was at a house in Pittsburgh, on a busy street, where it's impossible to unload a car off a carrier. So some other delivery point had to be arranged. You'd think the carrier would arrange that before hitting the road, but they didn't. Instead, they drove the car (along with several other cars) 20 miles past my house, then called and asked where I needed the delivery. When I told them, they said the car was already off the carrier and/or the carrier had to go on to the next destination, so the only way to deliver the car was to drive it 20 miles back to my house. I was not happy about that, but had little choice at that point but to agree.

I finally did get the car, but you'd think that if I paid over $600 for auto transport, they would deliver within a reasonable distance of the final destination, and not put 20 extra miles on the car. Also, I was moving in from Illinois and had no idea what the insurance and/or liability situation would be if they had an accident or breakdown while driving my car in Pittsburgh. In the end, it all worked out, but I didn't feel comfortable with the whole thing.

As a side note, the last time I used Nationwide (Illinois to Seattle in summer 2006) the carrier was extremely prompt and professional, and delivered the car right on time (off a tractor-trailer) to the agreed-on spot (at a shopping mall parking lot). So I think this isn't a reflection on Nationwide at all; it just depends on what carrier you get.
