No better than other companies

Montway says they're better than other car shipping companies. But the truth is they're exactly the same. They have the same problem with overpromising and underdelivering as the other brokers in this industry. I ended up paying hundreds of dollars more than the price quote Montway gave me. It also took longer than they said it would. It isn't the fault of the sales rep or the truck driver. It's the way these companies operate. They put their sales reps, and customers, in a bad position by giving out rock-bottom price quotes based only on the number of miles between cities. In reality, that isn't the only factor determining the amount they end up charging, and that's the problem. Once they've gotten you to agree to let them ship your car, these companies all post the shipping jobs on the same board, and wait for a trucker to accept the job at the price offered. But if you live in a small or midsize city that the truckers don't routinely go through, they won't accept the job at the posted price. They'll charge much more. I live in a midsize city (380,000 population) in Texas and needed to have my car shipped from New Jersey. After a few days of no nibbles at the posted price, Montway asked me if I'd be willing to drive four hours to another city (and four hours back) to pick up my car. It would have required taking a day off work. When I declined, a couple more days went by before they found someone willing to deliver to my city -- but at a much higher price than they quoted me. At that point, so many days had passed, I needed my car and I just accepted it. This, it's my understanding, is how these companies operate. It's an industry-wide problem. I wouldn't have been as bothered by all this if they had just been straight with me from the beginning. But that's not how they work. They dispense ridiculously low price quotes and promises that they'll find a driver quickly, even when they know perfectly well that they're not likely to make good on it. They'll say anything just to get you on the hook, then deal with the consequences later. The bottom line is, just be aware that you may end up paying more than they quote you, and it may take longer to get your car.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. This gives some really good insight into potential outside perspectives to our industry. We'll definitely use this to evaluate how we communicate some of our information. I will say that I respectfully disagree with some of the comments made here. We are pretty transparent about how we calculate costs and our estimated shipment timelines. You can find this information on our website at (https://www.montway.com/how-much-does-it-cost-ship-car). The number of miles is only one of many factors used to calculate the cost. Of course, I can't say otherwise for our competitors. But, since there are so many factors, this is why we provide a quote, which is our estimated cost to ship based on these factors. As we are a broker, we're going to look at every possible option to get your vehicle moved. This means reaching out to carriers that don't commonly operate your route or are more involved in specialty moves. Sure, we could just throw your order up on a board and leave it to sit for weeks as most companies do. But we would prefer to be more proactive and present all possible options. Our transparency is probably what makes us stand out from our competitors. Everything discussed here is available on our website (https://www.montway.com/help-center). And if customers do have questions or would like more information, they can ask our professional support team. I'd be happy to discuss further and encourage you to contact us at feedback@montway.com. -Rick, Customer Experience Manager
