My boyfriend, friend and myself moved from CT to CA in the beginning of September 2012. As everyone knows, this is an extremely stressful thing to do. We had to worry about the flights, our cats flights, packing everything, closing out our lease, getting a new apartment, but most importantly our cars that were purchased for over $20k each. I filled out some information online and had at least 25 car shipping companies calling me within hours.

First of all....Everyone needs to understand the car shipping auction process. The people that you speak with on the phone (the brokers) do NOT work for the actual trucking company or people transporting your car. They are the middleman that works to find you a trucker in your price range and moving dates. IT IS WORTH IT TO PAY THE BROKER FEE AND WORK WITH A MIDDLEMAN. I think it is pretty rare to be able to contact an actual trucker. It is very important that you go with an accredited company that has good ratings on this website. Once you find a company with good ratings, it is all a matter of picking out who you personally like working with. I chose Mercury Auto, because RICH RESATKA was extremely professional, informative and wasn't bashing the competitors to get my business. He didn't call me 6 times a day like some of the other annoying companies did. He told me right off the bat how the shipping auction works, where as some of the other companies try to hide that information from you. He took his time with me and was patient with all my 1,000 questions.

We shipped 3 cars and Rich told me that he would start the auction at $888 per car, but it would most likely be bid on by a trucker for $1100-$1200, because that was the market rate for that destination during that time of the year. Sure enough, he got a call from a trucker who said he would ship the cars for $1000/each, plus you have to pay the $132 broker fee to Mercury auto. So we ended up shipping 3 cars from CT to CA for $1132 per car, $3396 total. I thought it was pretty reasonable.

As far as packing your car...if you read blogs and reviews online, people warn you that your stuff could get stolen or the trucker will refuse your car if it is too full...All 3 of our cars had a good amount of belongings, but nothing blocking the windows. I stuffed the trunk to the BRIM and had some lighter stuff in the backseat. Everything arrived safely, even our 50 inch HD TV (Yeah, I know, that was a risky thing to do). So pack your car at your own risk. I recommend packing clothes and shoes and hangers and towels and comforters, etc. As long as you wouldn't absolutely have a heart attack if they were missing. (Although I highly doubt that would happen.)

The trucker himself was also VERY nice. I bought him coffee and donuts, because the poor guy has a long drive and I'm sure treats help. The car arrived within 7-8 days! The cars arrived very dirty (I could write my name in the dust), but that is expected, it went through 20 states lol! My car has been making weird noises, but that is expected as well.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER AND GO WITH RICH RESATKA at Mercury Auto. EVERYTHING HE TOLD ME HAPPENED AS PLANNED, the pick up date, the arrival date, the pricing, etc!
THANK YOU RICH! Kristin
