This was my first time using an auto transport company and I'm glad I used Magic Carpet. I did some research through this website and asked a friend who's transported his cars across the country several times. My friend said that basically all I needed to do was make sure the transporting company would insure my car against all damages and losses. Through TransportReviews I also learned that which ever company I chose was only a broker and not the actual company that would move my car - an interesting concept for me.
I chose Magic Carpet because they're so well rated on TransportReviews. Michelle with Magic Carpet was really helpful in my price negotiation. I ended up agreeing on $1105. She said they would price match other offers (I had SEVERAL offers ranging from $800-$1100) but confirmed what I had read: drivers don't want to pick up the low-priced contracts and the car could sit for days or weeks. So I ended up paying a little more to get my car picked up faster.
Michelle was very friendly and returned my calls promptly whenever I left messages. I didn't need to contact her once my car was picked up because the drivers delivered it ridiculously quickly (3 days from SF to DC). She contacted me about a week after my car was delivered to confirm that I had received it and asked me to write a review on this site so that I could get a $30 rebate. Turns out the "rebate" was embedded in the price I paid to transport the car because I had originally agreed on $1105 but was charged $1135. Seems a little dishonest but overall I'm satisfied with my experience and would use Magic Carpet again.
