magic carpet rebate a scam?

Magic Carpet provides refund of $25 if customer writes a review. There is nothing wrong in that because typically only unhappy customers bother to write reviews. So if you are happy with service, and if taking extra time to write an (appropriate) review and get $25 back, I don't see anything wrong with that nor do I think it constitute dishonest review.

However, 2.5 months after having my car shipped (and wrote review on 6/12/2010), I still haven't received my rebate. This is more than a month past the time that Kathy Ashlock from Magic Carpet told me that I should expect to receive my rebate.

Called Magic Carpet today but Kathy was out. Spoke to some lady who immediately put me on hold after I told her I am calling about my rebate. When she came back she told my paper is still being processed through their accounting department, and due to "overwhelming" response to their rebate program, rebate processing is 'delayed'. I asked her when I can expect my rebate and she told me she doesn't know. Says she can try to 'move my paper up the queue'. Says she understands my frustration, etc. I told her she also needs to understand that customers like me are becoming skeptical about their so-called 'rebate program' that is tied to customer writing a (good? wondering if anyone got their rebate after writing a bad review) review, because I don't see how it could take any company more than 1 month to issue customers $25 rebate checks.

When I asked her about her name so that I have a reference when making future correspondence, she abruptedly hung up on me.

So is Magic Carpet really honest about giving rebate back to their customers, or is it just a scam to gain high(er) rating (and exposure) on this web site?
