BEWARE - high ratings are misleading

I bought a car on the internet and wanted it moved safely. I did what I thought was good research to find a mover that was reputable. Magic carpet seemed a good bet based on "apparent" high ratings. Now, In retrospect and on closer inspection of their reviews, these ratings are "bought" based on the "refund" given if positive reviews are left after a move. I guess money buys all. These reviews are bought in many cases.

In my case I was told it would take 7 - 10 days to get the move done. Each wee4k I was told it would only be one ,more. I was told that they were working diligently to make it happen (in effect it was just posted on a transportation board hoping someone would want to put it on their truck...) They specifically told me that they were assembling loads on triucks and that it would not take long. I now realise that this was a lie as they are a borker and do not put together loads.

Finally they called me last week and told me that they had "good news" in that they had a driver to carry my vehicle. The catch for this "good news" is that it would cost an extra $200. Even more shocking was that the inital quotre of 630 went to 680 PLUS the extra 200 they wanted to charge me (almost a 30% increase in cost). I was naturally quite angry that they would even consider such a trick. This is classic bait and switch if I ever saw it. When I naturally refused to pay more they told me that they would be unable to find a carrier for my vehicle. I then told them to take a hike and I would look for a competent honest business to look after the move. I made the mistake of only having them take care of the mattter. I should have had other carriers or brokens be doing some of the legwork and reward the first one who could provide safe delivery.

Jim, sorry you feel this way. We are at the mercy of the drivers and what they are willing to do the job for, remember we dont make a cent if the car doent get pick up. PA has been a hard to move area which i explaned to you.
