The intent of our review here is to not only reflect our experiences with Magic Carpet but to offer some constructive suggestions for those seeking to transport their autos in the future.

Our experience: on one hand the pick up of our Camry almost did not happen, and on the other, it was perfect timing. So in the end our expectations were met in some areas and exceeded in others. We had, like so many others do in a big life changing move, only so many resources (people and so forth) to help us on either end of the trip and were hamstrung by these limitations. Even though a minor input error had the "drop dead date" wrong, we always got quick and relevant responses from not only Jeff, but his assistant Danielle H. as well. For us, this sort of communication was essential and is what really made the experience a 5 star vs. a 4 - or less - one.

Also, it is clear to us that Jeff has the experience and know how to do the job right - if you are reading this and are needing to ship an auto, I would suggest you call him directly and work with him (vs. anyone else there at Magic Carpet). After the correction we waited very nervously for an indication that our Camry would be picked up "in time" (ie, before we left the area entirely and for good, and no one would be there to help with the car such that it would have been abandoned). In the end, Jeff found a carrier (Big Star) almost at the last minute; it cost $100 over the originally stated amount of $1130. Not an issue for us; this added amount goes to the carrier's company and not the broker.

IF we ever did this again, we would set the "pick up date" for earlier, and, if in fact the car was then picked up sooner than latter, would have dealt with the timing problems then. For the folks reading this who have never shipped before: you need to understand this business in order to make it work for you to get a "5 star result". Even then, it is far from perfect; there are many variables. You must know that the likes of Magic Carpet are brokers only; they only control so much of the process. And they do not get all of the funds; the carrier's company gets most. It is important to ask questions of the process and make sure the order info. is correct. We always got nice, direct responses to our many questions and concerns from both Jeff and Danielle.

The use of the carrier, Big Star, was also a good experience and I would suggest seeking out them as well. Much to our surprise, even though the drop off date was changed (to a date 2 days latter than originally stated) by Big Star (banks are closed on the 4th of July), it worked out better than we expected. And that is a 5 star experience. Bob & Nancy, Tacoma, WA
