Forget the Middleman

This was my first experience of arranging for a car to be transported (NY-CA in this case), and so I did what most people would probably do: I researched on-line for a haulage company, only to find that they are generally hidden behind a screed of "middlemen" agencies claiming to serve as transport arrangers. I've got to hope that my experience with Magic Carpet was an exception, but I simply wasted $350 using them. After hooking me up with an excellent haulier (Plycon - I could have connected with them directly had I know they existed), Magic Carpet ceased to serve any useful further purpose. All subsequent communication was between and the haulier, and generally at my instigation. I was told to be at the delivery point (my home) between 10am - 12noon; the car finally arrived in my neighborhood (nowhere near my home - the truck was too big to navigate residential streets) at 5.30pm. I had to find out what was going on by first contacting the haulier, who then gave me the number for the truck driver - while my Magic Carpet agent brightly told me she was going home for the day. All this after I had asked 24 earlier for her to reconfirm the delivery window. I feel that I have been ripped off - and would never use this company again, and will ensure no-one that I regard as a friend uses them either.

I'm so sorry you feel I neglected you, Graeme. I was actually in constant contact with both you and the carrier on both ends of the transport. I was completely upfront the whole way. It did cost you a bit more, because originally you stated you needed your car picked up that week, but when the car wasn't ready, it had already been dispatched to the carrier. I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding about "going home for the day", as you know I was always available even off the clock through email. Your car was actually delivered 2 days earlier than originally estimated.
