I was trying to get my 1923 Ford T-Bucket shipped from N.Carolina to Kansas City Mo. I filled out a form on the internet seeking quotes from different companies. On the form i made it a point to state that i was looking for a "Enclosed Trailer ONLY" I know i received over 15 quotes, as a mattera a fact i'm still getting calls and emails from brokers who must have thought i was seeking quotes for sometime in the future. Without fail, everytime i got a quote it was for a great price until i seen it was for a OPEN Trailor. And each time it would say "I read your quote request" so i'm thinking REALLY?how'd you miss the "Closed Trailor ONLY" part. When they found out i wanted a closed trailor the quotes would triple and sometimes even more. Now i can't say i was really shocked by any of this because i have heard and read all the horror stories about having you car shipped. Everthing from finding extra milage to baby toys and even used condoms in one story. I was really dreading this and hoped that maybe something would happen so i could put this off awhile. You know, a root canal, broken leg, something that would heal. Thats when i was contacted by someone that for some reason just kinda caught my ear, it was a very pleasent English accent. And it was attached to a very nice lady named Claire Griffiths. I'm not saying that women can't BS you also, lord knows i'd have to turn in my man card if i said that but what did i have to lose. Turns out that she was not only pleasent, but very knowledgeable and proffesional. She not only was the first person to actually know i was looking for enclosed and not open transport but she gave me a very good price and for the first time it was the same price that was in the contract i was sent. All the others had changed the price by the time they sent a contract. I guess hoping i wouldn't or couldn't read. Claire set up everything and kept checking back to make sure everything was going as planned. The company she got to haul my car was named Auto Grasshopper, i know, i thought the same thing. It sounds more like a Kung Fu Movie. But then i though, hell i know a owner operator who nameed his company X-Con Trucking because he is a Ex-Con and besides the guy Claire found was very good and him and his wife couldn't have been nicer. The back tires on my car are so wide that i worried about it even fitting on the trailor without haveing to change them. I even had the place it was being shipped from to put a new coat of Armour-All on the tires so i could tell if they were scraped on the sides. From looking in the back of the trailor it looked like there was only about 4 inches of clearence on each side. I thought at one point it was taking a little long for the driver to get it to the back but when i looked in he had a microfiber towel wiping all the dust off the body. And when he got it out and i looked at the tires i could tell they had not rubbed anything. Being a truck driver myself for the last 46 years i know how important time is to a driver so i found out where he would be going after my drop off and offered to meet him at a truck stop right off the highway that he needed to go the direction he would be headed instead of him having to drive through downtown traffic and then have to try to make all the turns in a neighborhood area. So the delivery went very smooth and he was a great driver. So if i ever need to have my car shipped again i only have one thing i need to do.Call Claire and not worry about the rest. I can't say King Of The Road doesn't have other top notch employees because i only dealt with Claire. But i can say she's a asset to the company.
