Don't go with these guys.

If you can help it at all, don't go with these guys. I recently moved from California to Virginia and had the worst car-shipping experience ever. Here's a factual recounting of what happened.

On a Monday, I placed an order with a third-party broker to have this company ship my car from California to Virginia. I went with this company, since I needed my car to be shipped on the then coming Saturday or Sunday ONLY, not earlier and not later. After I placed the order, I received a call from the driver who hardly speaks english. I gave the driver my address and requested that the driver arrive after 1 pm since I was busy until then. The driver called me at 12:15 saying that he's here. When I told him I was not available until 1, he got angry and told me that I needed to show up "now" (then). So I cut my 12 o'clock short, arrived home at 12:42, but I didn't see his truck. When I called him back, he told me that he couldn't pull into my neighborhood because his truck was too big. He then spent about 3 minutes trying to pronounce the name of the street he was actually on: "Sunfire". When I finally found the street that he was on, I saw that he was in the neighborhood anyway AND he was on a street that's not significantly wider than my street. Furthermore, his truck wasn't even that big.

He then proceeded to have his assistant load up the truck while he sat and barked orders to the assistant. Though he eventually got out of the truck to help his assistant, he never once greeted me or even apologized for demanding that I arrive earlier than the time to which we'd agreed. No problem. He gave me a bill of lading that specifically noted delivery on SATURDAY OR SUNDAY, and then he left with my car.

On Thursday night, I received a call from his assistant who TELLS ME that he'll arrive at the destination address tomorrow (Friday) morning and that I WILL meet him to pick up the vehicle. I told him, "Sorry, but I won't be there until Saturday. That was the agreed-upon term." He started using heavy profanity complaining about how long and how far he's driven and then he said, "I'll tell you what's going to happen. I'm going to drop off the car tomorrow morning. If you're not there with payment, I'm taking your car to Philadelphia." I calmly assured him that threatening me was accomplished nothing and that we should wait until I'd contacted my broker. He said, "Do what you gotta do, but I'm delivering the car tomorrow."

When I contacted my broker, neither of us were able to get in contact with K.J. Falcon's dispatcher. (Incidentally, I found out that the driver's assistant gave me the wrong number.) With nobody to contact and an irate driver who wouldn't listen to reason (I had specifically contracted to deliver the car on SATURDAY OR SUNDAY, NOT FRIDAY), I went to bed thinking that I was going to have to go to Philadelphia to get my car. What a horrible way to sleep.

The next morning, a very good friend of mine agreed to retrieve the car and pay the driver. Because my friend wouldn't be free until noontime that day, I asked the driver to wait to deliver the car until noontime. He said he didn't want to wait that long. I told him that that's the only way he would get paid. Then he surprised me by suddenly telling me that he would only accept money order, traveler's check, or cashier's check. Now I had to ask my friend to go to the bank. (The driver could have easily told me the forms of accepted payment earlier when he picked up the car, but he didn't.) The driver finally agreed to wait until noontime telling me that he was doing me a huge favor, a statement to which I laughed to myself, but to him I calmly said, "Thanks." I told him that if would arrive after 1 pm, he would need to contact my friend through the building's reception desk, to which he agreed.

When noontime rolled around, the driver was nowhere to be found. 1 o'clock, nothing. Finally, shortly after 2pm, the driver called my friend. My friend asked him to go to the reception desk. The driver refused. My friend then proceeded to go meet the driver and pay him. The driver tried to demand $100 more money, so my friend wisely called me. I then clarified with K.J. Falcon's dispatcher that the balance owed was $650, not $750. The driver reluctantly accepted the $650 and left.

In summary, K.J. Falcon violated THREE agreed upon times and tried to demand more money. Furthermore, they were extremely difficult to get in contact with, and when they finally do speak to you, they're VERY unfriendly (e.g., profanity, threats, complaints, etc.). Finally, they don't tell you all the information up front (e.g., methods of payment). Save yourself the hassle of working with these guys. If you book through a third-party broker and they're contracting your job to this company, refuse.
