Ashton Submitted this review about K-1 Auto Carrier
Review made Live: 2/2/2010 12:05:00 PM
I was hesitant to use a car carrier in the first place because I love my car as if it were my child. K1 was chosen for me through Kathy at Phoenix Auto Transport and, though I had read some bad reviews on here, she assured me everything was going to be smooth sailing and they had never had a problem with this company after years of doing business with them. Most of the posts on here were about how the car didn't make it cross country in 2 days anyway, so I figured they have about 2 weeks to get from Baltimore, Maryland to San Fransisco, California, everything will be fine.

Pick up was on Sunday, 1/17 and was great. The driver was a really nice guy, on time and I instantly felt like I made the right decision, my car was in good hands. I had been contacted the day before, a few hours before, and when he was at the designated meeting spot. I wasn't worried at all that my car would be waiting for me in CA when I arrived on 1/29. I contacted Kathy on Wed, 1/27 to ask if my car had reached California and she said yes, it was sitting in a secure lot until ready for delivery. I reminded her that I needed delivery to be at latest Sunday, 1/31 so that I could be at work Feb. 1st. Remember I'm paranoid about my car, so we had gone over this a ridiculous amount of times and everyone knew when I needed the car by and she said K1 would be contacting me in the following days.

After traveling all day on Friday, 1/29, I got to my apartment and promptly fell asleep. Saturday, I called K1 and Kathy about ten times since I had not heard from K1 about delivery. My car does not show up, Kathy assures me that K1 knew I needed delivery over the weekend and that they had signed a contract saying they would do so. K1 never contacted me and my car was not delivered. I think, no need to sweat, there was a 2 day pick up window and probably a 2 day delivery window.

Sunday comes and I start calling and emailing both Kathy and K1 as soon as I wake up which is about 5/6am since I'm still on Maryland time. I do this about every hour. Kathy responds saying not to worry until tonight if they don't come. I wait, calling and emailing all day (I realize people may not be in the office, but who doesn't check their email everyday??), no contact from K1 AT ALL and no car. Now, I'm supposed to be at work in the morning at a place where there is no public transportation so my only option is a taxi. I ended up having to take a taxi to the grocery store Sunday night because a person can only last on food left in the pantry from the last resident for so long (considering there was only 1 box of pasta). Total for a taxi to and from the grocery store, $80. I am furious because I'm having to pay $879 to have my car here so that I don't have to pay for expensive taxis and K1 never even bothered to call to say they weren't coming!

Monday comes, no car, so I start calling again. Someone picks up at K1 and I question why my car has not been delivered. They say I requested delivery after 1/31. This just infuriates me so I ask why would I ask for my car to get to me AFTER I have to be at work. I tell them it is on the contract that we both signed that delivery had to be after 1/29 and before 1/31 so that I could go to my first day on the job. Then they claim Kathy told them not to deliver until after the 31st. I tell them, again, that's impossible. I also ask why they have not contacted me about delivery of my car when I had been calling and emailing all weekend and I know that the car has been sitting here in California since Wednesday and there was no bad weather over the weekend so it should have gotten to me. After multiple times of being put on hold (I assume to ask what lie to tell me next), they ignore my questions and tell me they can't deliver it until late Monday or maybe Tuesday. I say that is unacceptable since I had to call out of my first day of work since I did not have a ride and was not spending a ridiculous amount of money on a taxi again when it was their fault I didn't have my car. The person on the phone kept saying they would TRY to tell the driver to get it there Monday night. I asked if he was going to TRY to tell him or if he was GOING to tell him. After about 10 seconds of silence he says he's GOING to tell him and promptly gets off the phone.

I immediately talk to Kathy and tell her their explanations of why they didn't honor their contract and deliver the car as they said they would. Not only did they blame me, but her and her company, and now I still have no car, had to call out of work, and had to spend an extra $80 to get essential items for living when I'm already spending almost $900 for my car to be here!! She has her company speak to K1, showing them documents of all the information that I gave them about delivery with their signatures on them. They then say they will definitely get the car to me that day (2/1). I continue calling K1 throughout the day asking when my car is going to arrive and to speak to the driver. The only answer I get is "The driver will call you within the hour"... every time. It wasn't until the last time, at about 6pm when the driver actually did call and said he wasn't delivering my car that night, that it would be Tuesday evening. I say no, I need the car tonight. Then the driver actually asks me what reason I could possibly need the car tonight for.

At this point I am beyond belief. It becomes very clear to me that they knew I had to have the car over the weekend and they even signed a contract saying that that is when they would deliver it, but they just didn't feel like it. No weather prevented them from delivering the car and it's not like they don't operate on weekends. And now, when they said they would deliver it Monday evening, they were trying to push back another day because the driver didn't feel like it. I explained that people have jobs and need to get to them by using a vehicle. I was not calling out another day so he could sit around until he felt like making his last delivery. He gave me two options, either 12/1am or 7am Tuesday morning. Although I just wanted to have my car out of their grubby little hands, I knew if I picked midnight I wouldn't be able to see if there were any damages.

This morning (Tuesday 2/2) I receive my car, thankfully in the condition I left it in though the brakes sound a little funny but until I get it inspected, I assume it is because the car has not been driven as I have not been able to drive it in the past almost 3 weeks. Kathy had told me she had spoken K1 about a discount since I had to spend so much on the taxi just to get groceries, and the driver tells me she was lying to me and that K1 never contacted him about it. SURPRISE!! K1 didn't contact someone!!

This whole situation really would not have been that bad (only 2 days late) had K1 actually contacted me AT ALL about the delivery status of my car, ESPECIALLY since they had done so for pick-up. Even after I spent 2 days of constant calling and emailing over the weekend, I still had to call Monday morning and they STILL couldn't tell me when the car was going to be delivered or, more importantly, why they hadn't delivered it on the weekend as they were supposed to when there was absolutely no reason preventing them from doing so. I firmly believe that they just didn't feel like doing anything over the weekend and then didn't feel like getting it to me on Monday when they had promised then and, heck, the driver didn't even feel like getting it to me Tuesday morning until I yelled at him. I'm extremely disappointed in the service of the company and would NEVER use it again. A car is one of the most expensive purchases a person makes in their whole life, and if you're going to ignore people and lie to them about where their life savings is and not contact them at all because you didn't feel like doing your job, you shouldn't be in business.
