Pickup & Delivery Notification

GT Autotransport was great to deal with, but their subcontractor (driver) was a nightmare. They had promised a 24-hour notice before pickup and drop-off of the vehicle. No one called either time. The driver called at 4:30 pm and said he was coming to pick up the car, but never showed up. (My 80 year old mother waited up until 10:30 at night, but he was a "no-show"). When it was time to drop off the car, they just showed up without any warning, requested cash instead of a money order, and I had less than an hour to leave work, get the cash, and meet the driver.

If you don't have a job and can sit around the house all day waiting to give directions to the Hamptons from the George Washington Bridge (this was requested by the driver), I would recommend this company. It would also help if you had wads of money laying around to pay them in cash. If not, I would recommend that you ASK QUESTIONS of your carrier about the following: 1) who will provide directions to and from pickup/dropoff; 2) will they REALLY call 24 hours in advance, or should I just take the week off waiting for their call; and, 3) when they arrive, will I be expected to make their problems my problems? (e.g., "The streets are too narrow. Where should I park my tractor trailer???"). If I had to do it over again, I would pay more to avoid the aggravation and ask more questions upfront. Thanks.
