Freight Center action turned around what would have been a disaster

Freight Center has an automated rate quote system. In our case we selected New Penn for a Jan 29 pick-up and Feb 4 delivery. Delivery was carefully timed to allow a couple of days cushion before the recipient started a new job and would therefore be unavailable to meet the delivery driver. Unfortunately, New Penn transferred the goods to USF Reddaway and the delivery date jumped to Feb 10. When I contacted Reddaway customer service, Brian was completely unhelpful and totally unsympathetic with our scheduling problem, and this despite the fact that it was Feb 3 and the goods were in Reddaway's LA Downey terminal, a half days drive from the Phoenix, AZ destination. Brian insisted that Feb 10 was the scheduled delivery and go contact expedited services (and pay another $800) if I wanted it delivered any earlier. When I contacted my customer with this delivery date change, there was no discussion, she demanded a refund based on being misled from an acceptable to unacceptable delivery date.

Here's where Freight Center earned every dollar of their commission and 6 stars if I could award them. Calyn Hamilton and Michael Paxton took to heart what was at stake for me and my customer and spent most of Wed morning negotiating with Reddaway to deliver on time. Their persistence and service orientation paid off where I was unable to get Reddaway to budge. So for me, this was the first time I contracted with Freight Center as my broker and they came through when it would have been much easier for them to say, 'look, that's how the chips fall with cross country delivery dates.' These guys turned around a sure disaster and USF Reddaway are the chumps. You can bet I'm contracting with Freight Center again for my next haul because I want these guys in my corner when I need to deal with freight and freight problems. This review is totally unsolicited by Freight Center and I'm posting it because they deserve the credit for going above and beyond when they had only the narrowest window to make this delivery good, rather than a fail.
