Pathetic, patronizing customer service and failure to issue refunds

Arranged for a shipment back in July for transport of my camper van from Canada to the US. I paid in full around 7/27 as a wire transfer. I had to put the van in the repair shop to address some issues with what I believed was the fuel pump. I was called a week later to see when I wanted to schedule and said I needed to contact the garage for an update. The van turns out to be in need of a new engine and with the value of the van, I chose to not ship as the shipping was more than the value of the van plus repairs. I sent a cancellation notice to the company in writing, sent bank account information (keep in mind that they had my address and all contact information for shipping) and was told by the broker it would be end of the week. That was 8/5 and I am still awaiting a refund. For your information, they also take a 20% charge for giving the refund, even though the driver was not scheduled and they did absolutely nothing as of yet. I knew that was the contract so I wasn’t arguing for that, I simply want my 80% as that percentage of 9775 dollars is substantial. I have called 8/17, 8/19, and today 8/27. Each time I have called, I have been met with disregard and incompetence in addition to on 8/19 being told I had failed to provide the necessary information but give them 1-4 business days. Today when I called in obvious distress but still attempting to remain diplomatic, I was told that I was projecting (what?), accused of failing to do my part as the consumer (?), not being objective and repeatedly told that they were not going to ‘argue with me.’ There is no argument, there is simply a customer who has been waiting for a refund for three weeks. Also supposedly they have a skeleton crew and I need to be ‘patient.’ I have been amply patient and now I am furious and seeking the help of my lawyer. Do not do business with these people. They must be running out of money and won’t have it to give back to you if you unfortunately have to cancel service. It’s not worth the headache so save yourself the time, money and cortisol.
