Value of Broker

I had my Jeep transported from DC to Seattle and worked with Domestic Auto Transport to handle the work order. I put in the request about 10 days in advance of when the vehicle "should" be picked up in order to reach Seattle on my target date. A full business week went by and no update on a driver/pick up time. They were having trouble scheduling... After 8 - 9 days, we had the car moved to Annapolis because the wait was becoming inconvenient and leading right up to the 4th of July weekend.

A trucking company then picked up the order (CTC AUTO), said they would get the car the next day, and three days later no pick up. Worse, the driver had turned his phone off, the voicemail was full and no one was getting back to us with an update. Finally the driver came, albeit a slew of ridiculus excuses and promised to have the car in Seattle six days later. Sure enough, it was four more days after the new target date. Same problems...phone dead, voicemail full and no updates from the driver, lost of confidence/trust on my end and of course, a barrage of excuses.

Domestic Auto Transport has apologized for the inconvenience and Tara tried to stay on top of the driver. Never-the-less, the supposed value of going through a broker is to have not only the logistics handled but also trust that you will be working with a validated trucking company. That's what you are paying for when you tack on extra $100+ to the order, right? So while I found Tara good to work with, DAT still failed to meet my expectations. Plus, given the delays and annoyances, I have spent over $300 in rental car fees as well as gifts to friends that had helped me get the car to the driver in DC/Annapolis.

I understand that couple days delayed here or there can happen in this industry. But if that is the case, a simple call to set expectations is all that is needed. To promise and not deliver just sharpens the discontent.

If you choose to go with DAT, ensure that the carrier they are working with is a trusted one that they already have a relationship with. That should alievate some of the pains I dealt with.

Thanks,
CB

Thanks Christine! I know there were some bumps with estimated dates of Pick up and delivery, which can happen! The dates are Estimates. Communication skills were lacking on the driver's part with this order, but I did do MY BEST to stay on top of this order, as I do with all orders! Unfortunately there is no other way to find the good carriers without running into some bad ones!! FYI, we will not be using this driver again! Thanks for your patience though Christine! - Tara =)
